Best Place to Work Out

W hether you’re looking to pack on the muscle or just trying to get in shape, the ARC is the best place in CU to work out. The ARC is an absolutely massive workout facility. It contains three levels of different workout stations with hundreds of machines and weights, a climbing wall, twelve indoor racquetball courts, a sauna that fits 35 people, an indoor running track and two 50 meter swimming pools. The ARC is a much larger space than the other gym on campus, CRCE. “CRCE is really difficult to work out in sometimes because it’s so small and so crowded,” said Emily Hayes, a staff member and regular user of the ARC. “It can get really hard to use the equipment you want because you’ll probably have to wait for it.” Working out in the ARC is a much better aesthetic experience than CRCE, as well. While running on the elliptical, you can enjoy a spectacular view of campus through the large windows that surround the cardio area.

The ARC also contains numerous specialty areas, such as an instructional kitchen. There you can take a number of cooking classes that focus on creating healthy and delicious foods. Any Illini feeling particularly stressed out can make a stop at the Wellness Center where you can receive a “destressing kit.” Finish off your workout with a stop to the Courtside Café, which serves everything from coffee to cheese danishes.

Sal D: I don’t think that Anonymous is correct since I am pretty sure that memberships are in not in fact available to everyone. I think that usually a University affiliation (e.g., student, faculty-staff, alumni association) is required. If you don’t have such an affiliation, I would call first to see if you are eligible.

You can use the building for a day as a guest of a member if the daily fee is paid.
