If you’re in the mood for a captivating fiction or a sultry romance, the FriendShop Used Book Store offers books at a bargain price. Located in the lower level of the Champaign Public Library, the FriendShop has been operating since the new library opened in January 2008. Open Sundays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the first Tuesday of every month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the shop provides a variety of books and audio books as well as videos on DVD and VHS. Most items are priced at a dollar or less with proceeds going to benefit the library.
“Our selection is constantly changing,” said Pat Rowland, who has been volunteering for the Friends of the Library program the past five years. The bookstore is run by volunteers such as Rowland, who sort through hundreds of donated books every week.
Volunteer Marie Tompkins also enjoys interacting with customers and helping to make literature and entertainment more available resources to the community.
