Vice President Joe Biden will visit campus on Thursday, April 23, to speak about sexual assault on college campuses at the “It’s On Us” rally, presented by the Illinois Student Senate.
The free event will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Campus Recreation Center East (CRCE) and doors will open at 11 a.m. The rally will provide an opportunity for the Illinois State Senate to renew their pledge drive. People who take the It’s On Us pledge make a personal promise to recognize, identify and intervene sexual assault and to create a safer environment.
The Illinois Student Senate has been active in the “It’s On Us” campaign for the past academic year. The nationwide campaign, launched by the Obama Administration, raises awareness about speaking up against sexual assault on college campuses.
Mitch Dickey, Student Body President, said having the Vice President visit campus is an exciting milestone for their campaign and a testament to the work they’ve put in this past year.
“We have been giving 110 percent since the beginning of the campaign because we all feel so strongly about sexual assault and the message of the It’s On Us campaign,” Dickey said. “We are elated to use this opportunity to further spread the message of It’s On Us, and engage our campus and community in such an unprecedented way on this issue.”
