This week’s featured show not only offers spectacular local entertainment, but also promotes a great cause to help a local establishment that is desperately trying to make ends meet.

races1This Friday, The Accord will hold a concert-fundraiser for Rape Advocacy, Counseling, & Education Services (R.A.C.E.S.). R.A.C.E.S. has faced some considerable financial troubles lately due to the Illinois’ state budget impasse. Through staff layoffs and emergency fundraising, R.A.C.E.S. will manage to stay afloat through the spring. However, the organization’s resources and availability to the community has been limited significantly by the cuts.

Friday night’s show at The Accord will be the next installment of the R.A.C.E.S. fundraising campaign. Starting off the night will be solo acoustic set from Eric Stanley, who is also a member of local emo band Euriah. Following Stanley will be Love Handles, a feminist cover band.

Comedians Andrew Hicks and Nora Fitton will step up for a quick bout of comedy before New Souls take the stage to demonstrate their mastery at all things R&B and soul. Finishing out the night will be local band We The Animals followed by Champaign Ladies’ Amateur Wrestling (C.L.A.W.), a collective of women that perform professional style wrestling matches accompanied by live music from house band Bookmobile!
