Tucked away in downtown Urbana is Siam Terrace, a cozy Thai restaurant that treats you to a dining experience that feels different from most that you’re able to find on campus. With reasonable prices, and a sit-down atmosphere that that allows you to enjoy your cultural culinary experience in comfort, it’s no surprise that Siam Terrace is the winner of 2016’s Best Thai Food.
This a restaurant removed from the normal college experience – which is probably why you have to go to downtown Urbana to get it. Folded napkins on the tables and a classy indoor ambience help Siam Terrace feel like a more upscale establishment than the standard noise and crowds that dominate Bangkok Thai.
Siam Terrace offers a variety of dishes, including fried rice, stir-fry and noodle dishes. However, if it’s your first time visiting the restaurant, the green curry is a must-try. Your choice of meat perfectly cooked with bamboo shoots, peppers, carrots and eggplant, mixed with spicy green curry. Siam Terrace also has a range of vegetarian options, from crispy mock duck to an asparagus, shiitake mushroom, and tofu stir-fry. Plus, with their more authentic house special dishes, dinners can try a meal that they might not be able to find at other Thai restaurants.
If you’re looking for dessert, Siam Terrace has also got you covered. Sweet sticky rice cooked with coconut milk is topped with fresh mango for a traditional Thai treat. Other options include the same dish with custard, or a fried banana topped with honey.
Siam Terrace offers a variety of options, at a price reasonable enough to not break the bank for most college students. While other options in CU may have similar dishes, Siam Terrace has an ambience that sets it apart from the rest of the pack.
