Whether you’re a senior burnt out on all the usual dessert hot spots, or a freshman trying to venture outside dorm soft-serve territory, there are some terrific places on campus to satisfy even the most refined sweet tooth.

Insomnia Cookies

This classic student favorite is the ideal destination for late-night snacking. Open until 3 a.m. and located just off the Main Quad, Insomnia is a one-stop shop for anything cookie-related. They have a variety of their famous cookies, which you can pair with ice cream and other basic desserts. You can buy in bulk, which is great for group orders and the best part: they deliver.

Cocomero

The University’s premier frozen yogurt spot is a staple for those both new and old to campus. You can often hear upperclassmen groaning about how they’re “so over” Cocomero, but this is because people frequent it so often. It’s a typical create-your-own frozen yogurt place, with a twist. They have bubble and traditional teas, as well as desserts less commonly found on campus, like mochi and their Coco Goldfish. The atmosphere and seating areas are perfect for hanging out with friends and relaxing.

Jarling’s Custard Cup

Holding the title of best dessert in the Big Ten, and gracing Thrillist’s list of the best ice cream shops in the Midwest, Jarling’s seems to be the best place for more traditional ice cream-based desserts. Like an old-fashioned malt shop, they have shakes, sundaes and ice cream served in homemade waffle cones. They also offer “Snowstorms,” their version of the mainstream toppings and ice cream trend, ice cream cakes and pies and other frozen desserts.

Location: 309 W. Kirby Ave., Champaign

Paris Super Crepes

If you are a foodie looking for an Instagram-worthy dessert, or if you enjoy aesthetically pleasing sweets, then Paris Super Crepes is the spot for you. They offer rolled ice cream, either in a cup or a waffle taco. They also have dessert crepes that you can customize with toppings like ice cream, Nutella or fruit. Another highlight is their lightbulb drinks, their specialty drinks served inside of a lightbulb. Overall, this place has beautiful and delicious desserts and is perfect for any person with a sweet tooth.

The Cookie Jar

For anyone looking to find sweets outside of the frozen yogurt, ice cream, or Insomnia spheres, the Cookie Jar is the perfect spot to find simple, yummy desserts. They have cookies, brownies, rice krispy treats and other classic desserts. They are known for their buttercream sandwiches, which are comprised of two cookies with buttercream icing in the middle. The Cookie Jar also specializes in making cookie cakes and bulk cookie orders. Like Insomnia, they deliver, so you can get your cookie fix fulfilled from the couch.

Ye Olde Donut Shoppe

This franchise consists of a food truck and a brick-and-mortar store, and they specialize in pastries. Locals and students alike enjoy their traditional doughnuts and fritters, noting the excellence in texture, appearance and cost.
